João Costa Ferreira
Vianna da Motta was one of the great figures of Portuguese culture and music. Pianist, teacher, composer and cultural programmer, he was one of the last pianists to get artistic advice from Franz Liszt. In the field of composition, he was concerned about affirming a certain sense of "Portugueseness" in his music. The pianist João Costa Ferreira, holder of the prestigious Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution of the École Normale de Musique de Paris/Alfred Cortot, is currently researching the work of Vianna da Motta as part of his PhD at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, so the recital he brings to Casa da Música is based on a program entirely dedicated to the composer.
