Theo Croker “Star People Nation”
Trumpeter and composer Theo Croker has proved to be one of the most talented names in American jazz today. His new album, Star People Nation, released this year, after over a year of maturation, is a set of reflective and provocative compositions highly praised by the critics. Grandson of celebrated trumpeter Doc Cheatham and guided by another legendary name, Donald Byrd, Theo Croker first caught the eye of the public with the album AfroPhysicist, featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, which was followed by Escape Velocity, considered by the Wall Street Journal as “timeless and of-the-moment”. He also lends his talent to the hip hop world on acclaimed albums by J. Cole and Common. Theo Croker is a musician who, according to Donald Byrd, will redirect the current and change the course of new jazz.
Kevin Hays e Lionel Loueke
For over two decades, Kevin Hays and Lionel Loueke have been leading international jazz figures, with countless albums that place them among the most influential musicians of their generation. Their studio encounter was magical, marked by an inspiring creative spirit and perfect synch. A native of Benin, in West Africa, Loueke recently worked on Jeff Ballard’s project Fairgrounds, and together with American Kevin Hays composed the song that resulted in the newly released album, Hope. The two musicians, world-class masters of their instruments, also explore their vocal abilities here – Loueke keeps a microphone in front of him whenever he plays, integrating vocal rhythms and melodies in his music, and Hays also performs in this dual role.
