  • Bach did not determine the instrumentation of his Art of Fugue, the brilliant testament that culminates centuries of counterpoints and the creative life of the composer himself. But he could not possibly imagine the deconstruction he would endure at the hands of his compatriot Johannes Schöllhorn two and a half centuries later, who distributed each melodic line in the manner of the Klangfarbenmelodie of the Second Viennese School. The result, luminous, gloomy, magical and disconcerting, is a completely new perspective on a fundamental work in music history. In this concert where two in-house ensembles of Casa da Música are on stage simultaneously, the audience will be able to hear Schöllhorn's version and compare it with another interpretation, more loyal to the spirit of its original time, by the hands of Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música.
