  • On its return to Casa da Música, Orquestra Gulbenkian joins the celebration of the New World that runs through the entire 2019 season. Costa Rican maestro Giancarlo Guerrero, who has won several Grammy Awards as principal conductor of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, presents a programme that includes the most famous piece by the Brazilian Villa-Lobos and works by the Puerto Rican Roberto Sierra and the Argentinian Piazzolla – perfect examples of music that was strongly influenced by the traditional sonorities of the composers’ countries. The Brazilian António Menezes, one of the great cellists of our time, will perform a concerto of his compatriot, the prestigious conductor and composer Marlos Nobre – Unesco Award in 1974 and Tomás Luis de Victoria Award in 2004.
