O Eterno Feminino
Hyeyoon Park, winner of the prestigious ARD Munich Competition, makes her debut at Casa da Música with the music of a Russian composer who has distinguished herself by a very direct emotional, poetic and affective expression. The premise of Sofia Gubaidulina’s Offertorium is a self-sacrificing theme: the famous “Royal Theme” of Bach’s Musical Offering is orchestrated in the manner of Webern, distributed by different instruments until there is only one note left. Alongside Jorge Peixinho, Clotilde Rosa was the founder of the Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa (Lisbon Contemporary Music Group) and a pioneer of the Portuguese musical avant-garde. Ricercari is a testimony to her creative freedom without aesthetic ties. In this round table that brings together two great contemporary composers, there is an opportunity to learn more about the works presented in the second part of the concert – from the quiet and mysterious spectral writing of the Finnish Saariaho to a work by Unsuk Chin that seeks to musically translate certain physical phenomena associated with light.
